The Euros kick off this week! We've got group stage games from that tournament, Copa America rolls on, and a few domestic matches. Check it out!
Friday June 10
1500 - Euros - France v Romania - ESPN2 - THE EUROS ARE HERE! This first match isn't supposed to be the greatest football exposition ever as Romania will just defend to the death. France, who are one of the top teams from the midfield forward, will have to break down a side that only conceded two goals in their ten qualification matches. Pray for goals.
Saturday June 11
1900 - Copa - USMNT v Paraguay - FOX Sports 1, Univision - The final match of the group and the US only needs a draw (unless Costa Rica beats Colombia 6-nil). Even knowing that, I still expect Klinsmann to go for it. Our defense isn't the absolute best so getting goals seems the most likely solution.
2230- USL - LA Galaxy II v Colorado Springs Switchbacks - Youtube - Two of the three top teams in the West (although Los Dos have played a lot more games). I will always recommend watching LA's b-side as they score a lot of goals but also concede a lot. Fun.
Monday June 13
1500 - Euros - Belgium v Italy - ESPN - The first big matchup of the tournament is this one. The expanded format means there aren't a ton of big teams meeting in the groups. This is a off-cycle Italy side facing the peak of Belgium's golden generation so Italy will probably win (they usually do in tournaments).
Wednesday June 15
1900 - US Open Cup - Chicago Fire v Indy Eleven - Stream - The Peter Wilt Derby is on. Eleven have just signed Gerardo Torrado, former Cruz Azul Captain and second most capped Mexican player, but he won't be available after the FIFA window opens on July 4th. This match coming in the middle of the MLS international break so we'll have to see what kind of lineup Fire and 11 put out.
Thursday June 16
900 - Euros - England v Wales - ESPN - Everyone loves when the home nations get to play against each other and this one will pit Bale against a bunch of his old Spurs teammates. For the record, Wales have never beaten England in a competitive match.
1500 - Euros - Germany v Poland - ESPN - Poland were the first team to hand the reigning world champions a competitive loss after they were crowned in Brazil and the Germans haven't been their best since. As we saw in Brazil, German sides tend to grow in tournaments so they should be finding some form in this one.
2130 - Copa - Winner Group A v Runner-up Group B - FOX Sports 1 - Ummm... TBD but probably Colombia v Ecuador. That's a pretty classic South American matchup. Colombia has won five out of the last six meetings but anything can happen in tournament football.
Let me know what you think!
