What to Watch this Weekend (May 21-22)

Check out this week's top matches including the all the cup finals across Europe, #Heineken #RivalryWeek in MLS, and the first of what will be a packed summer of international games.

Saturday May 21

  • 1230  -  FA Cup Final  -  Crystal Palace v Manchester United -  FOX/Deportes/2Go  -  Crystal Palace are really not that good. They've only won 2 league games in 2016. This United side is far from vintage as well (although they do have a strong defense). Who knows what will happen but I'm guessing it will be boring.
  • 1400  -  DFB Pokal Final  -  Bayern Munich v Borussia Dortmund  -  ESPN3/Deportes  -  Although Bayern won their fourth Bundesliga title in a row, Dortmund pushed them right till the end. This game has a bit more spice because it will be BVB captain Hummels's last game before he walks the well-worn path from Dortmund to Bavaria. The only time Munich have lost a game outright in the last 28 matches in the cup was to Dortmund... twice.
  • 1445  -  Coppa Italia Final  -  AC Milan v Juventus  -  FuboTV  -  Juve came from the depths to win their 5th Scudetto in a row while Milan are still rebuilding and don't even have a permanent manager. This one should be all Juventus.
  • 1500  -  Coupe de France Final  -  Marseille v Paris Saint-Germain  -  beIN Sports  -  Another classic cup final tie between two giants (one of them in name only) in their respective countries, this one is literally Le Classique. Even without Zlatan, the French champions should have no problem beating 13th place OM.
  • 1500  -  MLS  -  NYCFC v New York Red Bulls  -  FOX/Deportes/2Go  -  The Hudson River Derby is no joke, like with fights and hatred and stuff. Both teams are actually quite solid on their day so this would be a good MLS match to watch and it's on network TV.

Sunday May 22

  • 1200  -  International Friendly  -  Puerto Rico v USMNT  -  FS1/2go, Univision Deportes  -  The first match between Puerto Rico and USMNT will have a lot of interesting dynamics. You should definitely watch this one even if it won't have the full roster (No MLS players).
  • 1530  -  Copa del Rey Final  -  Barcelona v Sevilla  -  ESPN2  -  In the last week Sevilla have won the Europa League while Barcelona wrapped up the La Liga title. This game seems to be a walkover for Barca but a win might mean to the Andalusians. If Sevilla can play a tight game and get a goal to hold onto, they might end the year with a cup double.
  • 1900  -  MLS  -  LA Galaxy v San Jose Earthquakes  -  FS1/Deportes/2Go  -  The California Clásico is an actual longterm rivalry during MLS rivalry week. Both sides are good this season (who can tell this early with parity) and their fans really do hate each other.

Let me know what you think!
